Room 317 [late afternoon]

Luke was in his room, sleeves up--the gash on his arm was fading rapidly--surrounded by his tool kit and fiddling with Artoo. If it stopped him from dwelling on other things, well, bonus.

Artoo was not entirely thrilled being used as a distraction.

"Try it again, please," Luke said.

Artoo obligingly began to spit back the beginning of "I Know A Song That Gets On Everybody's Nerves."

"It needs to be higher pitched, louder," Luke said, "and more off-key."

The door was open if anyone was wondering what he was up to.

Tori had been hanging out in her room for most of the day and was wondering what Luke might be up to.

She knocked lightly on the doorframe. "Hey."

Luke glanced up and smiled. "Hey, you," he said. "Come on in. I was teaching Artoo a few new songs."

Artoo chirped out the beginning of "Little Bunny Foo-Foo."

Tori entered, smiling brightly. "That's really good Artoo," she laughed. "Is it for any particular reason?"

"I figured that Headmaster Umbridge could use a singalong to brighten her day," Luke said.

Artoo blew a raspberry.

"And Artoo agrees."

"I bet she'd love that," Tori smirked, chuckling slightly. "What songs have you decided on? Besides Little Bunny Foo Foo, which is perfect, by the way."

"Hermione requested 'The Song That Never Ends'," Luke said, "and Gavin and I agree that droid spoken word is the most irritating music from our galaxy."

Artoo tootled his agreement. There was a slight whirring noise, then a projection of a golden droid hovered an inch above the ground. It raised its arm dramatically and in a monotone began reciting the alleged genealogy of the governor of Corellia, going back a hundred generations.

It was stupefyingly dull.

Luke shuddered. "Not for us, Artoo."

"Oh, so Umbridge has a nice selection to choose from," Tori grinned. "I'm sure she'll especially love the speech."

It was then that she noticed his arm. "Luke, what happened?"

Luke shrugged. "She didn't take too kindly to me asking her to stop messing with us," he said, focusing a little too intently on Artoo. "It's not a big deal."

"Apparently not," Tori admitted, angry. "It is a big deal. She does not get away with hurting my boyfriend, no way."

Yeah, Tori might've been a tiny bit pissed off at the pink lady.

As she went to knock at the door, Jaina realized that she'd never actually been down here. But then again, it was her uncle's room, which was weird when she didn't want to check on him.

She did knock, adding a "Hi."

Artoo gave her an inquisitive chirp, and Luke turned around. "Hi, Jaina," he said with a smile. "Come on in."

She steppped inside, greeting him with a little smile. "You know, it's really strange to hear your uncle get called down to the principal's office."

Luke's smile flickered a bit. "If she calls you, don't go," he said quietly. "She might look short and pink, but she's got power."

"All I know of her is what I've heard on the announcements," Jaina said. "She's really that bad?"

Luke pointed at the healing gash on his arm. "Yes. And it's not like we can go in and answer with lightsabers."

Jaina's jaw dropped when she saw the gash. "She actually does this? How have we not all thrown her over the causeway yet?"

"Personally? Because I haven't seen her off-campus," Luke said, blowing out a breath. "She has no idea about what the students here are capable of, and doesn't care. She's going to tick off someone with a lot less control over their powers and innocent people are going to get hurt."

Z, coming back from a workout in the gym, paused in the doorway to ask, "Is he going to keep doing that?" re: Artoo. "Because I can find an elsewhere to be. Holy cow, what happened to your arm?"

"Umbridge," Luke replied tightly, "thus leading to payback in the form of the most irritating songs in the multiverse. Any favorites?"

"She cut you??" Z had no words. None. She did, however, have a song. "Hang on, Syd has this song called "Me" that should win the Annoying Prize."

Artoo beeped inquisitively and rolled closer.

Luke pressed his lips together. "Yeah, she enjoys causing pain. Don't give her an excuse to use her wand on you."

"Wand? Is that like a metaphor?" Z asked as she dug through the stuff on her desk for the CD with "Me" on it. "Here we go. Track four," she said as she unearthed it.

"No, like a stick of wood," Luke said. "It works, too. And wow, is that irritating."

"..." said Z. "She must be stopped. Are you okay? And, yeah, I know. I'm thinking you could play it on loop as an interrogation technique. Eventually they'll crack just to make it stop."

"I'm fine," Luke said. "I mean, I'm not exactly thrilled I got tossed around like a child's toy, but I brought some of that on myself. Trying to take the stick makes her upset."

Artoo had been downloading the song and blared it back out at them, then tootled proudly.
