Room 317 [afternoon]

Luke wouldn't say that he had been spending the entire weekend hiding in his room, but he'd pretty much spent the entire weekend hiding in his room.

He'd call it "processing."

It looked a lot like brooding.

Yoda was in his tank doing the supportive pet thing. Or sleeping. It was kind of hard to tell.

"Yeeeeah, milk should not be blue," Z said. She poked at the pancakes. "And I've never seen purple pancakes before."

"White milk is weird," Luke countered. "What do purple pancakes taste like? Green Jello tasted like green!"

"White milk is normal," Z argued. "I don't know what purple pancakes taste like. Grapes, maybe?"

"Maybe," Luke agreed. "They certainly are...purple."

"Very purple," she said. "Dare you to eat them."

Luke hadn't learned not to accept random food yet.

"Okay," he said, smiling.

Z thought her roommate was adorably gullible. But this didn't stop her from holding out the plate of purple pancakes to him.

Luke dug in with the enthusiasm a teenaged boy brings to free food. "They taste fine," he said finally. "They're just purple."

Of course, he was from a different galaxy. His palate was a little...different.

"You can have them, then," Z said. Hey, she was being generous.

Luke grinned. "Thanks. How were your classes?" he asked as he plowed through the pancakes with unseemly haste.

"They were great. I decided to drop Spanish since it was basically cheating, though. What about yours?" Z watched, fascinated. The only person she'd seen eat with that kind of speed before was...well, Piggy. But Luke had much better manners.

"Cheating?" Luke asked, then swallowed. "Other than the Criminal Justice teacher being incredibly creepy looking, they seem fine."

She shrugged. "I already speak Spanish. And I dunno, I kind of liked the Criminal Justice guy."

"I have a thing about guys who wear masks," Luke replied.

"But maybe he has a good reason for wearing the mask," Z argued. "We shouldn't judge."

"Have you seen the Ethics teacher?"

"You mean the guy in the shiny black suit?"

Luke nodded. "He killed my father before I was born. I've got a thing about people in masks."

"That's terrible," Z said softly. "But you shouldn't be prejudiced against everyone in masks. And his thing is really more of a helmet, anyway!" Like that was going to help.

"He also tried to blow me out of the sky last week," Luke added. "But I'll try not to hold that against V."

"Good," Z said with a nod. "Geez, why would they let someone like that teach here?"

"I'm going with a fairly whimsical sense of humor," Luke replied.

"I guess that's one possibility." Z really couldn't think of any others.

"Or they're all on drugs," Luke added.

"And that's another," Z agreed.
