Luke wouldn't say that he had been spending the entire weekend hiding in his room, but he'd pretty much spent the entire weekend hiding in his room.

He'd call it "processing."

It looked a lot like brooding.

Yoda was in his tank doing the supportive pet thing. Or sleeping. It was kind of hard to tell.

Rory nodded. "I still have some, actually. Courtesy of your father and some of his friends."

Luke bit his lip. "I'm sure at some point that will become less strange to hear."

"I'm sorry," Rory said, instantly apologetic. "Would it be better if I didn't mention him like that?"

"Not at all," Luke said, shaking his head. "I just had this...image in my mind of what he was like. Growing up I wondered if I looked like him, or if he was like Uncle Owen, or if he ever got in as much trouble as I seem to. It's bizarre to think of him as having been a real person."

Rory nodded. "I can imagine. And like I've said, talking to someone like...well, me, must be weird." She gave him a sheepish smile. "It's weird for me, anyway, to talk to my former boyfriend's son. But it's not a bad kind of weird."

"Good," Luke said, cheeks going a little pink. "I'd hate it if you decided you didn't want to talk with me any more."

"I don't think that's going to happen," Rory said. "Because even if you get gremlin-bitten and turn inot a very mean and obnoxious person for awhile, I'll be there to laugh at you."

Luke ducked his head, cheeks going even redder. "Something to look forward to, then," he murmured.

For someone who blushed so much, Rory really wasn't very good at noticing other people's blushes or putting together motivations associated with them.

"It's inevitable, like I told you," she said obliviously. "But that's really the rule among Fandom's population: We all pretty much stick together, and we will never be afraid to make fun of each other."

"Good to know," Luke said, laughing. "The radio's good at that kind of thing, too."

"Exceptionally." Rory nodded. "I have no idea where the information comes from, but wow, inaccurate."

"Oh, I've been meaning to ask," Luke said. "What's 'emo?' It keeps getting mentioned along with my name."

"It's being sad," Rory explained, trying not to laugh. "Usually in a broody, kind of self-indulgent way, but they really just like using that word around here. It's short for emotional."

"Yeah, I've been kind of spreading that sort of thing around," Luke admitted.

"We're all between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, roughly," Rory said. "Emo just kinds of follows teenagers, honestly. If you weren't the cause, something else would be."

"Next week it's someone else's turn, then," Luke decided.

"Well, I just had my turn recently," Rory said. "So I can't take the baton then. But someone else surely will."

Luke gave Rory a small smile. "I think we've both had more than our fair share."

"This time next week, though, something else will happen to distract us all."

Rory really, really hoped that was true, considering she would need distraction badly come next Monday.

"I'm sure you're right," Luke said, smiling wider.

"I should get out of your way, though," Rory said regretfully, starting to get up.

"Thank you," Luke said, looking Rory in the eyes. "It helped to talk." He glanced over at the turtle tank. "And I think Yoda missed you."

Yoda? Was asleep.

"Of course he did. I took care of him for a couple months while your dad was on missions. He totally loves me."

Rory had absolutely nothing to back this up, no.

Luke took a closer look at the tank. "He's smiling at you," he said seriously, nodding. "So you have to come back a lot."

"Oh, I'm glad I have a reason now," Rory teased. "Otherwise I'd never come back."
