Preserve Clearing [lunchtime]

After leaving Rory a message to meet for lunch in the clearing she'd mentioned to him, Luke had wandered down to J, GOB for the proper supplies.

Being a boy, they leaned heavily towards Things Stuck Between Bread and Things Made of Chocolate and not so much with the vegetables or fruit.

He plopped down on the grass and tried to process some of the people he'd met in the last few days: a frog, a giant turtle, a girl from the future (though not his), Gavin--who wasn't nine years old any more, apparently-- a Padawan from the past, and oh, let's not forget, his niece. What the hell, Fandom, what the hell.

The people in Platypus seemed to be pretty great, though -- and Annette seemed really excited about his date with Tori.

Not that he was nervous about that. At all.

Except for the part where he was.

His gaze rested on initials carved into a tree nearby and he fought the instinct to roll his eyes. Hopefully his father hadn't done anything stupid to Rory in the last few weeks.

He wasn't counting on it, though.

"Poor Rory's brain," Luke teased, patting her on the head. "Oh!" He dug into the container of food he had brought and brought out two colorfully wrapped gifts. "Happy graduation," he said.

"Lookit the mug! He has a wee hat!" she said happily, tearing off the paper. "And oooooooooooooooooooooh. I've been wanting a nice pen for forever!"

"I'm glad you like them," Luke said shyly. "I was worried."

Rory bounced over and hugged him. "They're great. Thank you so much."

Luke clung back. "And your speech was great, even if it was a little overshadowed by the school blowing up."

"Marty said the same thing," Rory giggled.

"Marty's a smart guy," Luke agreed. "I liked your grandparents, even if they think I'm a little touched in the head."

"A little?" she remarked.

"Okay, they think I'm completely out of my mind," Luke said, rolling his eyes. "Happy now?" He grinned. "Grab some food. I bought a little bit of everything."

Just nothing, you know, green.

Like that was going to bother Rory?

"Great!" she said. "Thanks. I brought you coffee."

"Excellent," Luke said, "I need it." He took a sip from the cup. "There's another Jedi running around now, too, named Qui-Gon."

Rory's eyes went huge.

"Qui-Gon?"

Luke nodded. "Yeah, I think that was his name. He's being trained by Yoda, too."

"He was Obi-Wan's master, if he's who I think it is."

Luke's eyes grew as round as saucers. "Really?" he squeaked. "Good thing I didn't tell him about, you know, everything that happens at the Temple. He still had the hair, so I figured he wasn't from the future."

Rory bit her lip. "Yeah, he's one of the ones who took Anakin off Tatooine."

And then died horribly, but she wasn't going to share that.

"Wow," Luke said. "My father must be...not handling that well. He's all...my age."

"Yeah...." Rory agreed, smiling. "It's probably really funny."

Luke rummaged through the bag of food until he came up with a sandwich. "Has he been stupid recently?" he asked idly, taking a bite. "Aside from the normal, I mean."

"He wants me to have a normal life," Rory commented. "Moron."

"What's wrong with normal?" Luke asked.

Luke's idea of normal being slightly different than everyone else's, of course.

"I don't think he's trying to make you bored," Luke said, handing her a sandwich, too, "but I've been wrong before."

"No, he's just being an idiot," she said, taking the sandwich. "Thanks."

"You should be used to that," Luke said with a wry smile, nudging her shoulder again.
