Preserve Clearing [lunchtime]

After leaving Rory a message to meet for lunch in the clearing she'd mentioned to him, Luke had wandered down to J, GOB for the proper supplies.

Being a boy, they leaned heavily towards Things Stuck Between Bread and Things Made of Chocolate and not so much with the vegetables or fruit.

He plopped down on the grass and tried to process some of the people he'd met in the last few days: a frog, a giant turtle, a girl from the future (though not his), Gavin--who wasn't nine years old any more, apparently-- a Padawan from the past, and oh, let's not forget, his niece. What the hell, Fandom, what the hell.

The people in Platypus seemed to be pretty great, though -- and Annette seemed really excited about his date with Tori.

Not that he was nervous about that. At all.

Except for the part where he was.

His gaze rested on initials carved into a tree nearby and he fought the instinct to roll his eyes. Hopefully his father hadn't done anything stupid to Rory in the last few weeks.

He wasn't counting on it, though.

"And it brought back not great memories, huh?" Luke asked, holding on tightly.

He rubbed her back. "I brought pie," he murmured. "I told Jaina it helps with everything."

"It does," she said. "I've taught you well."

"I hadn't mentioned advanced pastry-throwing as an offensive move yet," Luke said with a small smile. "I figured you could teach her that yourself."

"Don't forget waffles," she said, grinning.

"Eww waffles," Luke said, wrinkling up his nose.

"They're good for throwing," she argued.

"Just don't make me eat them," Luke said with a grin. "Are you excited about teaching?"

She nodded. "And really nervous."

"You'll be great," Luke told her firmly, nodding his head.

"Or I'll fail miserably," she said.

He snorted. "You've never failed at anything," he told her. "Why would you choose to start now?"

"It could happen," she said.

"It's not going to happen," Luke assured her.

"What if wild rhinos stampede through the middle and mess up everyone's projects?"

"Then we'll throw glitter on them and call it graduation-inspired performance art," Luke decided.

Rory tilted her head. "What if they're allergic to the glitter?"

"Then it's their own fault for stampeding through the glitter workshop," Luke said. He slung his arm around Rory's shoulder. "It'll be fine. Trust me. I'm more worried about my father's class. Three Skywalkers and a frog. We sound like a disturbing folk band."

"We should make your dad learn the banjo," she declared.

Luke burst out laughing. "The look on his face," he said between giggles.

"It would be awesome," Rory said, nodding emphatically.

"I'll bring the banjo, you bring the camera," Luke declared. "We'll see if his head spins completely around."

"There's a movie about that?" Luke asked. "Why haven't I seen it yet?"
