Luke woke up two days later floating in a tank of bacta back at the main base.

Jo's gonna kill me, he thought to himself as he tried to peer out of the glass to see if she was there.

"I told them that it wasn't all that life-threatening," the meddroid said in Luke's earpiece as he was lifted from the tank.

"That's very reassuring," Luke said, wishing he was wearing something more than just his underwear. "What happened?"

"A creature called a wampa tried to eat you, I believe," the droid replied, sounding unimpressed. "Commander Antilles discovered you before you succumbed to the elements."

"...and being eaten," Luke pointed out.

"That as well," the droid agreed, leading Luke to his new bed.

Luke hated clinic beds.

He looked towards the door, hoping for visitors.

Luke gave her a small smile, which pulled at the new scars on his face. "Hi?"

Jo raised one eyebrow. "Hey."

"I don't like Hoth."

"I can't imagine why," Jo said dryly.

"I wasn't trying to get eaten," Luke tried.

"Uh huh."

Luke's mouth began to settle into a pout. "I wasn't."

"You still got gnawed on."

"Swiped at, really," Luke protested, "and a little bit frozen. Stupid Hoth."

"Still got swiped at, then."

"I'm sorry," Luke said, finally meeting her eyes. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"Good," Jo said. "Because you did. A lot."

He reached tentatively for her hand. "It won't happen again," he tried.

"Better not." Jo curled her fingers through his. "There won't be enough bacta in the universe after I'm done with you."

"I'll remember that," he said. "Leia told me the same thing after my hand got cut off and I haven't lost any limbs since."

Yes, Luke, that's why you hadn't lost limbs.

"Yeah, you better remember that there's two of us who are going to kick your ass."

"Did you spend time coming up with ways to do it?" Luke asked.

"Would we do that?"

The answer Luke was looking for would be 'yes'.

"Because I've met both of you before?" Luke said, raising an eyebrow.

"There is that."

Luke leaned in to kiss her quickly on the forehead. "I'm sorry," he repeated softly.

"Apology accepted," Jo said quietly. "Don't do it again."

"I won't," Luke said. "I wasn't planning on getting you stuck in the wrong galaxy."

"You'd have gotten hell for that."

"Figured," Luke said, leaning his forehead against hers. "Have you gotten any sleep?"

"A little," Jo replied. "Not much, but some."

Luke pressed his lips together, looking unhappy, then his face lit up. "I bet a hero of the Rebellion could get away with letting his girlfriend nap with him for a bit," he said.

Jo smiled. "Going to pull rank are we?"

Luke scooted over a little and patted the space next to him. "They promoted me to Commander," he said, still a little confused by it, "and I bet Leia could get the med droids to see reason."

Jo quickly curled up next to to him. "It could be worse, you know."

"Oh yes?" Luke said, wrapping his arms around her waist with a contented sigh.

"Your dad could be here," Jo pointed out, resting her head against his shoulder.

Luke snorted. "He doesn't get to share a bed with me."

"That could be awkward," Jo agreed.

"Especially with him being dead for almost twenty years in this reality," Luke said, kissing her cheek. "It's a long story. I'll tell you when we get home."

"Talking later sounds good."

Luke yawned and snuggled closer. "We have lots of later," he murmured.

"We do," Jo agreed, sleepily.

"I'm glad you're here," he said, drifting off to sleep.
