Luke was lying on his stomach watching the video feeds of Anakin's lightsaber workouts that Peter had given him and taking notes. He'd occasionally freeze a section and stand up to reenact the pose.

It wasn't the fastest way to learn a weapon, but it was working. Not that he wanted to confront Vader any time soon (he was enjoying his classes (even if he and Bridge were never going to be friends), chatting with interesting people (though his conversation with Schrodinger had been a little strange), and going to a carnival and a dance too much to want to fling himself into a potentially suicidal confrontation) but the scales must be balanced eventually.

He just hoped that the lessons he was getting with Aeryn and the things he had learned from the library would be enough, at least until he got a chance to spar with Angel. And he was a good shot, too--even though he was certain that more than a few people had probably attempted that approach already. And trying for a strafing run in the X-Wing was just silly (even if Rory had liked the flight).

He picked up the stick he'd been using to imitate the weight of the lightsaber and tried to repeat one of his father's complicated movements against the training remote, stumbling a little on the footwork. Luke pressed his lips together and tried again.

He was going to get this right.

Rory, who had Vladdie on his leash, knocked somewhat frantically on the door. "Lukey? Are you okay?"

Luke walked over to the door and opened it. "Fine," he said, smiling. "Why?"

"It sounded like you had a cow in there or something," she said, trying to look past him. Vladdie yipped.

Luke blushed and ran a hand through his hair. "I was trying out some lightsaber forms," he admitted. "I'm not that good."

Rory smiled. "Were you using the actual lightsaber?"

"No," Luke said, smiling. "Not out of the salle, in any case. I wanted to see if I could get a handle on how the movements felt before trying again." He glanced over at the screen where Anakin was whipping through his practice with the ease of long experience. "I'm years behind."

Rory caught sight of the screen and froze. "Oh."

Luke bit his lip, looking worried. "Are you all right?"

"I'm fine," Rory said, looking like she'd seen a ghost. Which, well....

She shook her head to clear it. "Are you making any progress?"

"Some," Luke said, still looking concerned. "Peter thinks I'll pick it up okay."

He closed his eyes and concentrated. The program turned itself off. He smiled, pleased. His fine control was getting much better.

"Which one?" Rory asked, beaming at him. "Which Peter, I mean. Pevensie?"

Luke nodded. "That's him." He smiled. "Oh! I met Angel."

"So what'd you think?" Rory asked, raising a brow.

Luke's smile got wider. "I liked him. He invited me for the holidays, so I guess he liked me, too."

"He invited you?" Rory looked slightly hurt. "He didn't invite me. But he's nice, isn't he?"

"I'm sure he just forgot," Luke assured her. "And he is. He said he'd help me learn to fight!"

No, Luke didn't think that telling this to Rory might not be the smartest idea ever.

"Did you know Angel and your father almost killed each other once?" Rory asked.

Luke blinked. "Angel just said he'd won," he said. "He didn't say that."

Rory smiled. "Yeah, they were fighting over me. Stupid boys."

"That part he did mention," Luke said, smiling. "He said it had been some kind of misunderstanding."

Force forbid that Luke think something negative about his father, after all.

"Well, Anakin and I had a fight so Angel decided to go posture at him," Rory explained. "Like I said, stupid boys."

"Am I supposed to do that?" Luke asked.

"...try to beat up people who fight with me? No, that's okay," she replied, looking at him weirdly.

Luke bit his lower lip and blushed. "Did you have fun at the dance?" he asked, kind of changing the subject.

"I did," she replied with a warm smile. "You did too, right?"

Luke nodded. "Will's a lot of fun."

"And not an evil heartbreaker?" she checked.

Luke smiled. "No. Bridge?"

Because he's totally prepared to make an exception in the 'no beating people up' rule he had for himself.

"He's just a friend," she replied, blushing a tiny bit.

"Good," Luke said softly, then turned away. "Do anything interesting recently?" he asked.

"No, I'm kind of boring," Rory said with a small smile. "I visited Vader on Tuesday and went to his class on Thursday after I took you through SC."

"He was at the dance," Luke said, sounding creeped out. "What the hell?"

He'd given up on asking Rory not to poke the Sith Lord.

Rory wrinkled her nose. "Was he dancing?"

Luke shook his head, giggling a bit at the image. "Not that I saw. He was lurking in a corner."

"What a strange guy," Rory said, shaking her head. "Um. I should let you get back to your lightsabering, though."

Luke glanced at the chrono by his bed. "It's almost time for the Flight Club meeting anyway," he admitted.

"Have fun," Rory said, smiling and heading for the door. "Don't crash the sim."

"Never!" Luke said, sounding insulted.

Rory grinned. "Take a joke, Lukey," she said, moving to give him a quick kiss on the cheek before she headed out the door.
