Oh So Sekrit Rebel Outpost [Wednesday]

Fresh from his mission to Hanoon (and really, getting instructions from random dead Jedi Masters was never going to be less strange), Luke took a very long shower and decided to check his email.

It had, after all, been a few months. He hoped it wasn't all spam and fanmail based on that stupid holothriller about the battle of Mindor.

"Echuu Shen-Jon," Luke replied. "Leia'd met Shen-Jon before--he'd dueled Vader to give her time to escape Geddes after she'd crashed there escaping from Yavin. You don't need to guess who won that battle."

And Leia hadn't been thrilled to be reacquainted when Shen-Jon had showed back up.

"That's one of those stories I'm less familiar with," Jaina admitted, and had to wonder whether she'd have Leia telling her these stories in a few years as they happened like she heard them from Luke now. "But you found what you needed to find, everything's good?"

"Yes," Luke said. "Some pieces of an old Jedi artifact he didn't want to fall into anyone else's hands. It's been destroyed completely now." He smiled. "Just another day at the office. What's new with you?"

"I wish I could say 'same old, same old,' but that'll never happen here," Jaina said. "Uh, there was an invasion of gremlins, I'm waiting on my next mission, and Mom's here as a student. It's an interesting semester so far."

There was a long pause.

"What?"

"Yeah, I know, different gremlins. I should have specified."

She knew what he meant.

There was the sound of prolonged, slightly hysterical laughter from Luke's end of the comlink.

"Leia's there? How old is she?"

"Sixteen," she answered with a little smile. "So, five years younger than me, just to add to the weirdness. And she lives next door and she seems to purposely be trying to make Grandfather's head explode." Which, honestly, she could get behind.

Luke did some quick arithmetic. "So she's still living with Bail Organa?" he checked. "And how is she driving Dad insane?"

"She is. And she's dating," Jaina said, making a face. She was trying to be good about it for about a dozen different reasons, but it was still weird and nothing was changing that. "She went out with Chuck Bass once, and I think that pretty much gave everyone a collective aneurysm."

Luke choked. "Chuck Bass?"

Cautious pause.

"Does he still have all of his pieces?"

"He does. And I went to work for him," she said with a shrug. Which she still thought was a really good decision for her personally. "There's some other guy I like less who's gone out with her more, anyway. I know way too much about my AU mother's love life."

"Wait, what?" Luke replied. "You went to work for him? Why? Doing what?"

"I'm back working at Caritas again," she clarified. "He needed more people working, and I liked the job when I had it before, I was getting bored out of my mind not working all the time anyway... I like it." Plus there was a part of her that had really missed being social and talking to people when she wasn't burying herself in work. It was like getting a little piece back of the Jaina that was.

"I don't think I knew he owned it," Luke said with a laugh. "Why aren't you working all the time now?"

He'd been a little busy being completely insane the last trip back to get any real news.

"Yeah, about that. We kind of won a war?" Jaina said, smiling.

"That's fantastic," Luke said, smile practically audible. "No mopping up operations that go on for years?"

Like, say, what he was doing now?

"Oh, no, we're still probably going to be doing that. It's amazing the kind of people who come out to play right after a war ends, only to need to be taken down. But I'm trying to do that while finishing out my last semester, and then I'll likely be the one telling you about my last mission when you call."

"I can't wait to hear about them," Luke replied. "So how did it end? Tell me no one built another Death Star."

"No," she said with a little laugh, trying to find a nice, succinct way to put this. "I was about to get sacrificed by the Supreme Overlord for taking on the role of a goddess he was beyond mad at, and Jacen killed him. No one there to oversee the war then," she explained. Though when Nom Anor defected to the Alliance side, the war was essentially over anyway.

"Well, add me to the list of those grateful you didn't get sacrificed," Luke said, sounding serious.

"It wasn't so bad." It kind of had been. "I know some things to work on so that sort of thing doesn't happen again and believe me, I will be working on them."

"Not turning into a goddess again on that list?" Luke teased. "You know how people get about their religions."

"I'd do it over again," she clarified. Like Jacen had said, things had had to happen a certain way. Onimi started losing it about the time Jaina made herself public like she had, and so someone had spent half a war trying to kill her specifically. It helped end the war. "But I don't think I will be doing it in the future. Though I really hope there's not a reason to ever impersonate a goddess again."

"Why did you do it to start with?" Luke asked, sounding interested.
