Oh So Sekrit Rebel Outpost [Wednesday]

Fresh from his mission to Hanoon (and really, getting instructions from random dead Jedi Masters was never going to be less strange), Luke took a very long shower and decided to check his email.

It had, after all, been a few months. He hoped it wasn't all spam and fanmail based on that stupid holothriller about the battle of Mindor.

"No. At least, not that I know of. She knows you exist, but nothing more than that. I got the okay to give her your name without an argument, but I haven't seen her to do so. Long story," she said, knowing that had to sound weird. "So you might want to put off visiting till that conversation happens."

"Oh, absolutely," Luke said. "When I was sixteen, I was watching Biggs read through academy material and wanting to be anywhere but where I was. Things changed in a few years."

Luke had a gift for understatement.

Jaina smiled at that. "I think the hardest part will be convincing her not to go looking for you, but she's not dumb. I trust her there," she explained.

And part of her was really curious. "Do you ever wish you could go back to when things were simple and easy?"

"No," Luke said after a bit of a pause. "If I'd been home when the Stormtroopers came looking for Artoo and Threepio, I'd've met the same fate as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, and your mom would've died on the Death Star. This is where I'm supposed to be, what I'm supposed to be doing."

"But you don't miss hanging around and doing nothing, when your only worry was getting somewhere else?" There wasn't really a reason she was asking, just curiosity after her last talk with John of how other people thought when they looked back.

Luke laughed. "You haven't spent much time on Tatooine, huh?" he teased. "I was desperate to get offworld."

"I've heard enough to feel like I've spent a lot of time there," Jaina grinned. "You know, I've tried to figure out where Dad is right now in Mom's time, and I'm pretty sure he should be getting the Falcon right about now."

There were aspects of Leia being here, the ones that led to thoughts like that, that were really sort of astral.

"I'll have to tease my Lando about that," Luke decided. "I needed something new to bug him about anyway."

Pause.

"I should probably not mention there's another Leia to him, huh?"

"Please don't," Jaina said, quickly, with no small amount of horror. That would go bad. No. No bad wrong no no no. "Never, ever."

"But you're okay with her dating Chuck Bass?" he teased.

"I'm not okay with it, I'm just trying to handle it as a mature woman who was told that he's not planning on seeing her again," she clarified quickly. "Besides, he's trying to turn over a new leaf and he hasn't hit on me lately. It does make that easier."

And since Luke believed that everyone could turn over a new leaf, he took it at her word. "Oh, okay. Who's the other one you don't trust as much?"

"Mat. The guy who hit on me on my birthday less than a week after my breakup and then made out with my mom. He did have the best reaction ever to me calling him 'Daddy' though." Sometimes you had to make your own fun.

"Wait, you had a breakup?" Luke replied. "I've missed everything!"

"I'll sum it up for you," she said. "John's time sped up to a month for every Fandom day, so we broke up, he got married, got divorced, my war ended, we got back together despite the time difference, and now he's in Colorado on a military assignment. It's been a crazy few months."

"So...I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, that had to stink for John, I'm glad, I'm really glad, and I'm sorry," Luke said with a little laugh. "How'd I do?"

"That was really impressive," Jaina laughed. "Nothing to be sorry about on the last thing, though. He should be back in contact within a week or so, and then I'm sure there'll be plenty of new things to tell you the next time."

"I'll have to find time to do this more often," Luke said. "I feel hopelessly behind."

"I'll send E-mails when something happens you might need to know, how's that?" she offered.

"Sounds good," Luke said. "I'll even flag your address so I can find it among all of this junk I get."

"I'll feel that much more special knowing you did that," she teased. "Maybe I'll type the subject in all capital letters to help." Considering the amount of capslocking she did in E-mails just for emphasis, that would not be difficult.

"I'm pretty sure that while I was gone Wedge signed me up for a lot of useless organizations," Luke said.

He didn't sound annoyed. He sounded relieved--he had a tiny, niggling worry that becoming a Jedi was going to turn him into someone his friends wouldn't feel comfortable teasing.

"As is his right as Wedge," Jaina replied. It had taken her a while to be able to actually see the sort of thing Wedge put his friends through, but once she became privy to seeing that side of him, it was hilarious.

Luke laughed. "I'll have to pay him back somehow," he decided. "Any suggestions?"

"What, throwing me his way in a couple decades won't be enough?" Ignore that it wasn't Luke who got her the job or Wedge who hired her.
