"Yes, really," Luke was saying to his father over the comlink. "Leia and the babies are both doing fine, according to the meddroid, and they'll be born in a few months."

There was a pause.

"No, I'm not going to tell Han you said that."

Another pause.

"Or that."

And another pause.

"And that's not even physically possible--" he went pale as the voice on the other end continued, "all right, so it is, but you're not going to do that to your son-in-law."

He smiled. "No, no one thinks you're old." Mostly because they thought Anakin was dead, but details. "You're just going to be a grandfather. Okay, okay. Give Juliet and Rory my love. Bye, Dad."

Luke disconnected the call and shook his head, Surprisingly, that had gone better than he'd expected.

"It hasn't been dull," Luke admitted. "I'm wondering how long it will be before someone pops Borsk Fey'lya in the head. Even odds are on it being your father or Admiral Ackbar."

"I'm not going to spoil that one for you," Jaina said immediately. Because no one had done it and that was sad, even if the guy made up for a lot the way he died. He was still a jackass until then.

Decades went past! Really, it wasn't fair that no one had punched him really hard at least once.

"I'll just use my imagination," Luke said. "A Jedi should show patience and not hope that a politician gets smacked."

"I say a Jedi can hope all he wants as long as he's not the one doing it... without a good reason, or a gut feeling or something."

No, really, anyone who said that couldn't have been a monster as a child.

"He's not secretly evil, right?" Luke asked, maybe a little hopefully.

"Just a politician," she said, sounding a little disappointed herself. The stupid Bothan had made her cry once.

"Blast," Luke grumbled. "He's really mean to Admiral Ackbar."

"He's mean to everyone. It's what he does," Jaina said, and paused. "Not that I can imagine anyone being mean to Ackbar..."

"Not more than once," Luke said, "but Ackbar isn't great with the sneaky, saying one thing and meaning another rules of warfare Fey'lya loves."

"That's because he's a military leader, not a politician," she said, careful not to use past tense. "People tend to be more upfront in battle planning sessions rather than talking in circles to push their own agenda." Unless they were Kyp. Or Jacen. Sigh.

Luke nodded. "I'm glad your mom is fluent in this language because I'm still learning it."

"Yeah, she's a good translator. It's kind of scary how good she is at it sometimes." Especially since it was something Jaina couldn't seem to do at all.

"Well, she's Leia," Luke said with a little laugh. "She's been varying degrees of scary and good for years."

"Probably since birth," Jaina agreed, and that was a scary thought.

"Speaking of, have you seen tiny Leia recently, or is it too weird for you?" Luke asked.

"I don't get the chance to talk to her much," she admitted. "I think the last time was at homecoming. But she took the class I taught last semester. That was weird for the first couple weeks."

"I'll bet," Luke said with a little chuckle. "Did you have to give your future mother detention?"

"No," she said, sounding a little disappointed. "I didn't give detention once. I almost feel gypped."

"Well that doesn't seem fair," Luke agreed. "You'll have to try harder next time?"

"I got a good batch of kids," Jaina explained. "And don't get me wrong, I like when my job's actually easy. But when my job's easy and it means teenagers are behaving, I start to worry."

"I was a very well-behaved teenager," Luke claimed. "Well, aside from the 'joining an armed rebellion against the government' thing."

"I'm sure that was just a phase you went through," Jaina grinned.

"Doesn't everyone?" he asked, laughing. "Most of my friends did!"

Luke's view of the galaxy was slightly skewed.

Jaina actually couldn't argue that. Every single one of her friends had been involved in the Vong war. "If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?"

"Well, yeah," Luke said. "I'm the only one who could stop them from braining themselves at the bottom."
