After his workshop with Mr. Winchester, Luke came back to his room to convince Artoo that Leia had gone home.

Artoo, still in the closet, remained unconvinced.

"I wouldn't lie to you about this," Luke told the door, rolling his eyes. "She came, she saw him, she had ice cream, she went home. Really."

Artoo let out a mournful whistle.

"Fine," Luke said, flouncing back to his bed. "I'll be over here, practicing levitation with Yoda who's a turtle again, thank the Force."

Yoda? Not thrilled by getting spun through the air again, but he couldn't talk any more, so no one cared.

The door was cracked open.

"Not great," Luke said sadly, "but there weren't any fatalities, so I think that's a place to start from, right?"

Luke might be a little optimistic.

"It's ... better than the alternative." Rikku leaned in for another hug. "That bad, really?"

"She wouldn't talk about it and I'm not exactly anxious to bring it up with him, but the emotions I was picking up...not good."

"Well, it's a lot." She shrugged. "I mean ... all of this you just told me, it's ... huge, yeah? Maybe they need some time. Maybe they're gonna need a lot of it."

"I'm ready to give them both all of it they could possibly want," Luke said, "but I'm not a little kid. There aren't always happy endings."

"No," Rikku said. "There really aren't, and sometimes ... you have to call what you get a happy ending 'cause it's way better than what you could've had. But ... don't give up on them just yet, yeah?"

Rikku grinned. "Good. I mean ... yeah. Maybe they won't, you're right. But they might. Some day."

She shook her head. "Wow. What a weekend."

Luke gave her a sloppy grin. "Something like that. You were all bouncy when you came in--what's going on?"

Rikku giggled. "You, uh. You feeling up for a party? Might get your mind off things."

Rikku bounced up and pirouetted once or twice. "Can you tell? Did I walk in the room and you thought, 'my goodness, Rikku looks so much more sixteen than when I saw her last'?"
