Shuttle parking [Saturday evening]

After spending time in the flight sim with John dying over Coruscant, Luke had raced back to the dorms to get ready for his date with Jo.

He checked the inside of the shuttle, not at all surprised to find that it was completely spotless, and poked around a bit with the food replicator.

And then had an argument with Artoo, who was under the mistaken impression he would be joining Luke and Jo on the date. Luke blamed his father for that idea.

He sent Artoo--grumbling electronically--back home, then waited for Jo. He only bounced on his toes a little bit.

Really.

Jo wasn't quite sure what a suitable outfit for flying, so she went for nice but practical. That it was also fairly easy to remove meant nothing. Really.

Luke grinned back. "You look great," he said, leaning in for a kiss.

Jo smiled into the kiss. "So do you."

"I discovered this thing called a shower," he teased, pulling her closer.

Jo happily slid her arms around his waist. "I wondered what was different," she teased back. "The smell."

"There was this square thing called soap," Luke said. "Thought I'd give it a try."

"Seems like it was a good idea," Jo replied. "I never knew your skin was this colour."

"Cute and funny," Luke said, laughing. "I'm so lucky."

He reached for her hand. "Come on, I'll show you around."

Jo curled her fingers through his, looking around. "I've never been on something like this before."

"I kind of borrowed it? Sort of? Before the second Death Star blew up," Luke said, leading her down a tight corridor. "This is a Lamda-class shuttle," he said, "which means it can hold a lot more than just two people."

He stopped in the galley. "And it can make food. But I figured maybe we'd do that once we got up into space?

"This the kind of borrowing where you don't ask first?" Jo asked with a smile. "I can wait."

"It was the kind of borrowing where I wasn't supposed to be there anyway, so it's not like asking for permission was going to help anything," Luke said, tugging her back towards the front of the shuttle. "And this is the cockpit," he said, practically glowing with excitement.

Jo whistled softly. "Looks complicated."

"It's not so bad," Luke said, sliding into the pilot's seat and gesturing for Jo to sit in the co-pilot's chair.

He ran through the preflight sequence quickly, making sure to explain what he was doing.

Jo sat in the chair and listened intently, watching him.

Luke was a different person when he was in his natural element: much more confident and sure of himself.

And it was very obvious he knew what he was doing. His hands skimmed across the controls with the ease of practice and with no wasted motions.

He pressed the button that fired the engines to life. "Ready?" he asked, smiling.

She nodded, beaming back at him. "Yeah."

They moved smoothly through the atmosphere and into orbit and Luke spun the shuttle around so that the Earth filled the window in front of them.

"Nice planet you've got," he said softly.

"Yeah," Jo said softly, just a little awestruck. "It is."

Luke was a little busy focusing on Jo to notice the view outside any more.

"Beautiful."

Jo totally wasn't blushing once she'd realised this, nope.

Luke wasn't blushing to see that he made her blush either.

Or reaching his hand out towards hers. Not at all.

Not that Jo would have taken his if he did. Or blushed a bit harder.

Luke put the ship into a stable orbit, then unstrapped from his chair and moved closer to Jo.

"So I did all right?" he checked, putting his hands on her shoulders.

Jo grinned at him. "You did great."
