Room 317 [after classes]

After an interesting conversation with his father early in the morning, Luke had gone for a long run.

And then an even longer session alone with the punching bag.

And then he'd tried some meditation.

Now? He'd spread parts to a small droid out all over the floor, back carefully turned away from the half of the room that was supposed to have a Z in it, and fiddled around with electronics.

Loud Corellian rock was blaring from his stereo and out through the open door.

If you asked him? He was fine.

"I don't even know," Luke said, leaning his head against his bed.

"I'M FINE!" Luke yelled back, then turned down the music.

"You okay?" she asked, leaning in the doorway.

Luke flipped the music off and practically leaped across the room to cling to Jo.

"It's been a day."

"Totally," Rikku said, leaning against the doorway. "You seem fine. Like you're having an awesome kinda day. Anyone ever tell you you're a crappy liar?"

"I don't even know," Luke repeated with a sigh.

"All the time," Luke admitted.

She knew that sigh well. Pushing away from the doorway, she cleared herself a small area on the floor to sit, and said, "Talk to me?"

"Remember that whole, 'we're friends, we should tell each other the bad times and the unpleasant stuff' lecture I got from you? Like, just before break?" Rikku grinned. "I can see how much of it I remember."

"He's happy," Luke said, trying to get his thoughts into some kind of order, "and I know this is what Rory had wanted back when she thought it was impossible, and I didn't even know my mother, so this shouldn't feel like any kind of betrayal of her, right?"

Luke wrinkled up his nose at her. "My father's getting remarried. It's fine."

Jaina made a face, maybe revealing that she'd had the same thought. "I think it's allowed," she said slowly. "Between the holos and Evey, I'd think it would be somewhere in your head."

"He is?" Rikku bounced on her toes a little, but tried to keep it to a minimum. "That ... is it Rory?"

"Want to talk about it?" Jo asked, hugging him tightly.

"It's nothing I could tell either of them," he said quietly. "You should have seen his face when I told him Evey was here. I've never seen blood drain so quickly."

Luke tossed a sock at her. "Of course it's Rory."

"Dad and Rory are getting married," he said into her hair.

"At least he knows?" Jaina tried. "I wasn't sure if I should try to warn him, if I should try to warn her, or hope they never managed to meet." She paused, and asked, "How are you doing with that?"

Rikku laughed, pulling the sock out of her hair and tossing it back. "Hey, I don't know. I'm not all psychic-Jedi like some people."

She gave him a curious glance. "I thought you liked her? I mean, you're friends, right?"

"Oh," Jo said. "And that's...bad?"

"She's taking his class. I had to tell him," Luke replied, running a hand through his hair. "I like Evey. She's easy to talk to. But it does have me wondering more about my mother. And the only one with the answers is locked up tighter than Jabba's palace."

"I don't know," Luke practically wailed. "Is it totally stupid to miss my mother?"

"He doesn't talk about her to you?" Jaina asked. She'd heard some things, but it hadn't occurred to her till now that Luke might not be hearing the same.

"Exactly. And I love her. But not, you know, as a mother."

"It's not," Jo said softly, nudging him towards his bed.
