Room 317 [after classes]

After an interesting conversation with his father early in the morning, Luke had gone for a long run.

And then an even longer session alone with the punching bag.

And then he'd tried some meditation.

Now? He'd spread parts to a small droid out all over the floor, back carefully turned away from the half of the room that was supposed to have a Z in it, and fiddled around with electronics.

Loud Corellian rock was blaring from his stereo and out through the open door.

If you asked him? He was fine.

"Me either," Gavin said. "What're you taking apart?"

Luke stared down at the parts. "I don't really remember," he confessed. "But I think I can make it fly."

"You don't remember?" Gavin frowned at the mess. "What if it was something you needed?"

"Artoo handed it over...so it probably was," Luke said slowly. "Dammit. Long day."

"What's up?" Gavin asked. "Everything okay?"

"It's fine," Luke said quickly. "My father's getting remarried."

"Oh." Well, that wasn't what he expected to hear. "That's...good? Or bad? Or what?"

The look on Luke's face made it clear he hadn't exactly made up his mind on that either. "He's happy, so that's good, right?"

"Yeah, that's good for him," Gavin replied, "but maybe you're...not so sure about how you feel?"

"She was my first friend at Fandom," Luke said, "and I know timelines are all kinds of screwed up, but he's, you know, my dad, and she graduated last year."

He pasted on a smile. "It's fine."

"Uh huh." Gavin didn't quite believe him. "Maybe it'll just take some time?"

"Not that I need it," Luke said quickly, "because I'm fine, but they're not getting married for a few years."

"Course," Gavin said and nodded. "A few years. Plenty of time to...take a lot of things apart."

"And to go home," Luke said.

Because that was nice and healthy.

"Thinking about that already?" Gavin asked, raising an eyebrow.

Luke shrugged. "I graduate in a few months. It seems irresponsible to leave all of the hard decisions to Leia and the Provisional Council when I could be helping somewhere, too."

"Yeah, true," he agreed with a nod. "Still, that's a few months away. You've got time."

Luke's answering smile was far too innocent. "Maybe I could spend it accidentally hitting on Brooke, too," he said.

"Yeah, you co--" Gavin frowned. "Hey! I wasn't hitting on her!"

Luke burst out giggling laughing. "That's not what she told me," he claimed.

"Lying!" Gavin said, eyes wide. "I wasn't hitting on her!"

"What were you doing to her?" Luke asked. "Oh, and don't mess with her hair. She doesn't like that."

"I thought she was Jaina was I was teasing her," Gavin explained. "Messing around."

"Doofus," Luke said, snickering and ignoring the part where he'd done the same thing.

"Shut up," Gavin grumbled. "They look like twins!"
