tatooine_doofus: (Luke: bad feeling)

Luke had written down several outlines of what he wanted to say to Leia.

He'd also written down a page of Things Not To Say Ever, Ever, Ever and had them in prominent view when he locked the door so he'd have warning if Z was coming in, then picked up his comlink.

Telling his twin that their father was getting remarried. He had a bad feeling about this.

Leia
Leia actually had some time on her hands for once - a very brief amount of time, she was sure - when she got the call, and thumbed on her comlink. "Yes?"

Luke
Luke couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. Seeing Leia always lifted his spirits. "Hey, you."

Leia
"Luke," she said, immediately happier. "You're much better than any of the people I'd been expecting to talk to today."

Luke
Luke's smile widened. "And that kind of greeting is why you're my favorite sister," he said. "I have a present for you. Check your datapad."

Leia
Curious, Leia retrieved her datapad in order to check for the information Luke had sent her. She recognized her father, of course - and yes, she still did think of him that way, and then she was frowning, asking, "Is this..."

Luke
Luke nodded. "Senator Padmé Amidala," he said softly.

Leia
There were about a thousand questions in Leia's head at seeing this, but the one that actually made it to her lips was, "How did you get this?"

Luke
"Our father gave it to us," Luke said, eyes locking with hers as he wished he could know what she was feeling.

Leia
The truth was, Leia wasn't sure on that, either. She was glad to have it, yes, which brought up a lot of emotions right there. The mention of their father brought completely different ones with it. "He just had this?" she asked, wondering where else he would have gotten it.

Luke
Luke shook his head. "He knew the right archives to search, I think. She's not up in his office or anything. There are a few others. Nothing that wasn't taken at a state function. One with Ben Kenobi as a very, very young Jedi."

Leia
It was almost a shame that she was rational enough to accept that. "That had to be strange to see," she said, maybe a little distantly. "Thank you for this."

Luke
Luke's brow furrowed. "Do you need a second?" he asked.

Leia
She shook her head, and shook it off. "No, it's all right."

Luke
Luke didn't look entirely convinced, but he didn't push it. "I'll send you the rest of the holos a little later," he decided.

Leia
Leia nodded her thanks, and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't even ask how you were."

Luke
Luke gave her a soft smile. "I've had a little bit more time to adjust," he said. "I'm fine."

He chewed on his lower lip for a second. "There's some news."

Leia
Oh, no. She braced herself, though she was far too good at it by now to be obvious about it. "What news?"

Luke
"He's getting remarried."

Luke braced himself for the fallout.

Leia
There was a pause as Leia figured out that no, she hadn't heard that wrong.

And then immediately following the pause was a "WHAT?"

That pretty much summed it up. To start.

Luke
Luke nodded. "Not for a while, but...yeah. He and Rory are getting married."

Leia
"Because that worked so well the first time?" Leia said, a bit louder than she'd intended. "We only just found out about him and he's getting remarried?"

Luke
Luke nodded, looking unhappy.

Leia
At least she knew she wasn't alone in this. "What is the matter with him?"

Luke
Luke snorted. "You want a list?" He sighed. "I guess we should be happy he wants to, you know, be with people. Even if the last time was kind of disaster."

He'd never, ever tell Leia exactly what he'd found out about Padmé's last day. She didn't need more reasons to hate their father.

Leia
"Of course, he deserves congratulations on being well-adjusted," said Leia, who knew she shouldn't be taking it out on Luke and tried to make a conscious effort to cool it.

Luke
Luke gave her a wry smile. "I'm not sure any of us can be described as well-adjusted."

Leia
"And whose fault is that?" she countered. Breathing deeply, she asked, "How are you doing with all of this?"

Luke
"I'd had better weeks," Luke admitted quietly, "but I trust that Rory knows what she's getting into."

Leia
"You're sure about that?" Leia might not have had a lot of trust for her father, if that wasn't obvious.

Luke
Luke nodded. "She knows all of it." He ran his hand through his hair. "I think she might know more than we do."

Leia
"Somehow I believe that," Leia said dryly, shaking her head. "I don't get it."

Luke
"I've spent almost a year watching him and I still don't understand him most days," Luke replied. He gave her a small smile. "At least you're someone I get."

Leia
She softened a bit finally. "Yes, thank you for being... normal," she told him, a bit gratefully.

Luke
Luke let his guard down for a moment, finally looking as tired as he was. "I miss you."

Leia
"I miss you, too, Luke," she said honestly, and noticing the tiredness, asked, "Are you really all right?"

Luke
"Huh? Oh, I'm fine," he said with a smile. "I just haven't had a break in a bit and a friend was just in the clinic. It reminded me of how much I hate visiting friends in the clinic."

Leia
"You definitely deserve a break," Leia told him, knowing on some level that she was not in a great place to dispense that sort of advice. "You should look into it."

Luke
"Take a nice, relaxing trip back home?" he teased lightly. "I'm sure you're not insanely busy."

Leia
"I never said it would be relaxing, I said it would be a break," Leia said with a little smile.

Luke
Luke paused to really consider it. "Think you could squeeze me into your schedule?"

Leia
"Of course," she assured him. "I'd make it a point to."

Luke
Luke nodded, then gave her a smile. "I'll see you in a few weeks. I'll check in a few days before leaving to make sure I'm heading to the right planet, okay?"

Leia
"I look forward to it," she said with a smile. "For now, though, I should get back to at least one of the things keeping me busy."

Luke
"Bye, Leia," he said with a final smile, flipping off his comm.
