Luke was putting the last of his belongings into bags and boxes and trying not to be too upset about leaving Fandom forever tomorrow morning.

Outside his alcove, Artoo was selling copies of Fandom's Greatest Humiliations over the last two years for what he felt was a very reasonable price.

Whenever the melancholy threatened to overwhelm Luke, he'd look over at the little droid who'd begin to whistle "Doe, a Deer."

Artoo wasn't big on feeling sorry for yourself.

Evey knocked lightly on the doorframe. "It's that time, then?"

Luke nodded. "The time that hurts," he said to the pile of clothes in front of him.

Evey raised a brow. "Awful non-specific there," she commented lightly.

"I'm working on my vague," Luke said. "It's apparently a necessity in being a Jedi."

"Are you going to keep in touch?" she asked softly, watching him carefully.

"That's the plan," Luke said, "but when my father went home, he got cut off entirely from Fandom."

Evey looked slightly pained, for just a moment. "Oh."

"I think I'll be fine," he said quickly. "He had...other issues at the time. Leia's been able to transmit through with no problem. Maybe the next generation of comm equipment solved the problem."

"I hope so," she said softly, smiling a little.

"Me too," Luke said. "I don't want to lose track of you."

She waved a hand. "I'll be fine, don't worry about me."

"That's not exactly how I work," Luke admitted, shuffling his feet.

She smiled crookedly. "I know, but I had to say it."

He smiled back. "You're going to be okay?"

"Of course," she said confidently. "Are you?"

Luke nodded. "It's kind of what I was born to do."

She grinned. "Then I wish you all the best," she said quietly, stepping closer and going onto her toes to press a quick kiss to his forehead.

Luke's cheeks went red. "May the Force be with you, Evey," he murmured.

"And with you, Luke," she said softly, not that she really understood the meaning of the sentiment.

He smiled. "It's been a pleasure knowing you."

"Even if I confused the hell out of you initially?" she asked, smiling.

"Even if," Luke said, smiling back. "You're practically one of the family."

Her smile got a little sad. "Thank you." She hesitated, then held out her arms.

Luke stepped in to hug her. "I mean it," he murmured. "You need anything and I'll be there."

Evey still wasn't familiar with this kind of closeness with most people, so she just rest her head on his shoulder. "The same goes for you."
