Luke was putting the last of his belongings into bags and boxes and trying not to be too upset about leaving Fandom forever tomorrow morning.

Outside his alcove, Artoo was selling copies of Fandom's Greatest Humiliations over the last two years for what he felt was a very reasonable price.

Whenever the melancholy threatened to overwhelm Luke, he'd look over at the little droid who'd begin to whistle "Doe, a Deer."

Artoo wasn't big on feeling sorry for yourself.

Luke looked up from his packing. "Yeah," he said. "It's time. It sucks, but it's time."

Lana nodded. "I'm sorry to see you go."

"I'm sorry to be going," Luke admitted. His eyes twinkled just a little. "I'd tell Han hello for you, but I have a different Han."

She blushed like crazy. "Oh, I can't believe you remember that!"

Luke chuckled. "It was a little traumatizing."

She covered her face with her hands. "Well... maybe you should tell your Han. Might make him curious enough that he'd come visit and bring you along."

"I, of course, will have changed my name and had plastic surgery by then."

Luke laughed harder. "This is my good friend, the total stranger not named Lana. She's never seen you before?" he teased. "That might not be the first time Han's had an introduction like that, come to think of it."

"Something like that, yeah," Lana agreed. "And if he's anything at all like the Han I knew, yeah, that's probably not a new introduction."

"I bet every version of him is one of a kind," Luke said with a grin. "Anyone who can hold his own with my sister is pretty impressive."

Lana nodded. "I don't know her, but I can imagine."

"She's like me, but better," Luke said, beaming. "What are your plans after Fandom?"

Delaying the goodbye? Of course!

"I'm going to study forensic science at University of New Haven," she said with a smile. "I'm looking forward to it, even though I've probably got another 8 or so years of school ahead of me."

"School was never really my thing," Luke admitted, "but I do wish I felt a little more prepared."

"I think you'll do just fine," Lana said seriously. "I'd be willing to bet on it even."

Luke grinned. "Thanks," he said. "Have a niece around here who seems well-adjusted and sane gives me some confidence."

She laughed again. "Yeah, that is the oddest thing. I actually haven't run into anyone from Smallville here except Chloe, much less nieces or whatevers."

"I'd offer you some of my family," Luke said, "but I like you."

Her laugh was a little rueful this time. "Well... I like your father. He's been really good to me. But, you know, I usually think people are lucky just to have family."

Luke nodded vigorously. "I didn't have any when I arrived in Fandom. Now I have one of the most ridiculous family trees around, and I wouldn't give it up for anything."

"My stepmother is three months younger than I am," Luke said with a grin. "I watched her graduate last year. I love the insanity."

Lana nodded. "The people who do well at Fandom are those who manage to embrace the insanity. Not quite sure what it says about us, but it's true."
