Luke sat as his desk staring at the holoprojection of Mindor, then down at the battle plan Lando had left for him.

He sighed and scrubbed his fingers through his hair. "This is going to get messy," he said to the empty room.

Technology was a wonderful thing when it let Gavin give Luke a call across great distances without nary static on either end. Gavin waited for Luke to pick up.

"Skywalker," Luke replied, answering his comlink.

"What's up, old man?" Gavin asked, already grinning into the phone.

Luke blinked. "Lieuten--Gavin!" he said, finally having it catch up for him. "Sorry. Too many Darklighters running around. Where in the universe are you?"

"Right now?" Gavin asked, looking around. "A hotel room in Ohio. I've been traveling with some of the leave time I've got. Using it up while I can."

"When's Wedge expecting you back?" Luke asked.

"Couple weeks," Gavin said, getting comfortable in the hotel bed. "I spent some time in Valdemar so they actually counted that as me working since I was doing some diplomatic stuff. Hear that? I can be a diplomat."

Luke chuckled. "Is Leia's job in danger? Are you going to take a spot on the council next to Admiral Ackbar now?"

"Oh, you know he'd be throwing me out of council within minutes," Gavin said and made a face. "No, I think she's safe. This was more of a technology exchange sort of thing. I was teaching them about ships and things that fly."

"And they're sending you home with a squadron of horses to train?" Luke teased.

"Bite me, Luke," Gavin said dryly. "No, I don't have horses. I did ride a donkey though when I was at the Grand Canyon. You done that, Mister Big Shot Jedi?"

"That's General Big Shot Jedi," Luke corrected, then laughed. "I have too many titles. And no, I missed riding on an ass. Something I should fix?"

"It was kind of fun." Though, he'd been sore the next morning. "The Grand Canyon is kriffing huge, Luke. I'm in good shape but I was not walking that thing. The donkey solved that."

"Bigger than Begger's Canyon?" Luke said. "Think they'd mind if I tried to fly it?"

"Mind? Yeah," he said and laughed. "But I don't think they'd be able to catch you if you did try. Also, you'd have to bring me along."

"But an X-Wing doesn't fit two," Luke said. "And you're too fat to fit in my lap."

"And you're too old so I'd probably break your hip," Gavin retorted.

"I'm not that old!" Luke retorted. "I just outrank you by a lot."

"And you're old," Gavin insisted. "Ancient even!"

"I so go to find your twelve year old ass around here and kick it," Luke threatened.

"Wouldn't that make you a kid hitter?" Gavin asked, snickering. "Along with a baby kisser?"

"Luke, you're not blaming the baby, are you?" he teased.

"It depends," Luke decided. "Can she talk coherently enough to ruin my story?"

"Last I heard, she wasn't up to big words yet," Gavin shared. "But I haven't been back to the island in awhile."
