Room 317 [afternoon]

After a few hours poking around on the X-Wing with Artoo and a quick check to see if Leia had written--she had, and there was still no sign of Han--Luke flung himself onto his bed and began to practice with the Force.

Yoda was not excited to be one of the things chosen to be juggled.

Seeing Luke distracted, Artoo made his way stealthily towards the door.

"Don't even think about it," Luke said sternly. "Last time you got out, you came back covered in cake."

Artoo whistled innocently. "No," Luke replied.

Artoo made sulky noises and rolled back towards the corner.

Luke shook his head. "Not until I'm ready," he said. He smiled at Rory. "And I want to give you some time to work."

"I'm not enough," she said, shaking her head.

Luke reached for Rory's hand. "What makes you think that?"

"I'm just not," she said, shrugging. "I'm one little girl. He's twenty-four years older. I don't think I mean anything to him, aside from being a reminder of what he was. He's not turning back from the Dark Side for a memory."

"But for his own son," she continued, looking up at Luke, "along with the reminders? There's a chance."

Luke privately mused that dropping Han into carbonite for a grudge twenty years old didn't sound like Rory meant nothing.

"It doesn't feel right yet," he said, looking a bit embarrassed. He still wasn't entirely comfortable talking like a Jedi. "I'm not giving up on him, I'm not, but I don't want to push him further than he's ready to go."

Rory nodded. "Baby steps," she agreed.

"And the Emperor would still be a threat," Luke added. "I need to think large scale." He grimaced. "As Yoda was constantly reminding me. Apparently my father had a problem with detachment."

"Only a small one," she said mildly.

Luke's smile turned a little wry. "Yoda was not pleased when I decided to go after Han and Leia. He predicted disaster."

"Was he right?" she asked quietly.

"Han's missing and Leia's a mess, so...maybe," Luke said slowly. "But I don't think I ruined anything by trying to help them. They're my friends. I can't just abandon them."

He was very much his father's son in that.

Rory pulled him into a hug.

Luke clung. "We'll bring him back," he promised.
