After his workshop with Mr. Winchester, Luke came back to his room to convince Artoo that Leia had gone home.

Artoo, still in the closet, remained unconvinced.

"I wouldn't lie to you about this," Luke told the door, rolling his eyes. "She came, she saw him, she had ice cream, she went home. Really."

Artoo let out a mournful whistle.

"Fine," Luke said, flouncing back to his bed. "I'll be over here, practicing levitation with Yoda who's a turtle again, thank the Force."

Yoda? Not thrilled by getting spun through the air again, but he couldn't talk any more, so no one cared.

The door was cracked open.

"I told her you were here," Luke said, eyes twinkling. "She didn't care."

"Hey, I didn't even know she was here," Gavin retorted. "I win!"

"Would you like a cookie for that?" Luke asked innocently.

"I won't say no to a cookie," Gavin said. "How was her visit?"

Luke hopped off the bed, poked at the Synthetron until it popped out a plate of sand cookies and brought them back across the room.

"It was pretty quiet," he said carefully. "I made her get ice cream with me."

"I want one of those," Gavin said, whining at the machine. He couldn't rival the master whiner, of course, but it was a good whine. "Was she just in town to see you?"

"It's Z's," Luke said. "It took me forever to figure out how to make cookies come out of it. I got about a million hot dogs first."

He bit into a cookie and munched happily for a moment before replying. "She also came to see our father," he said. He rolled his eyes. "Who was a raging rancor last week, what the hell."

"Yeah, he was pretty unhappy," Gavin said around a mouthful of cookie. "Very unhappy. Really very unhappy. Raging rancor is actually the best description."

"I don't pretend to understand his thought process," Luke said. "I only met the man a few months ago."

"Did Leia's visit help?" Gavin asked.

Luke snorted. "With him? Not really. But I loved seeing her."

"Did you tell her about your gremlin adventure?"

"That's when you came up," Luke said, grinning. "She laughed for about an hour. Fortunately, Artoo was too scared to come out of the closet and show her video footage."

"You didn't mention...the quarters, did you?"

Luke went pale. "No!"

In the closet, Artoo blatted out an electronic giggle.

"I've had about enough from you!" Luke called towards him.

"Has he been in there all weekend?" Gavin asked.

"He's been in there since last Tuesday," Luke said, rolling his eyes. "Threepio's not that big a drama queen."

That got him and outraged squeal.

"Did I hear the radio right?" Luke said, eager for a subject change. "You and Inara?"

"You should be laughing at him," Gavin said, nodding to the closet. "He's scared of a girl."

And then he blushed.

"Oh, uh. What did the radio say?"

Artoo sat there in sulky silence.

Luke ignored him.

"That you were trying to translate the 'hey, baby, let's go check out Begger's Canyon' into a flight simulator date," Luke teased.

Gavin stared. "What?!"

"Okay, maybe I'm loosely translating," Luke grinned.

"I was teaching her how to fly," Gavin said. "We didn't do anything in the flight sim!"

"Good," Luke said. "My father would kick your ass." He smiled again. "I wouldn't blame you for trying, though. Inara's pretty great."

"Yeah," Gavin said and grinned stupidly.

Luke grinned over at him. "Are you going to do anything about it?" he asked. "Because I'm full up on useless pining in my life."
